Sunday lunch on Mt Tamborine.

A couple of weeks ago we enjoyed a wonderful lunch with friends at a little restaurant called ‘Sundowners’, situated on Mt Tamborine.  High above the beautiful Gold Coast, Sundowners is tucked away on Main Western Rd and has spectacular views back over the valley. Rustic and homey with a touch of elegance, Sundowners is recently under new management.

The menu is small but diverse and our table (numbering 13) enjoyed such delights as Macadamia and Herb Crusted Atlantic Salmon, Seedy Mustard Mash with Lamb Shanks, Coq Au Vin and a Beef Rib Steak (on the bone) that Fred Flintstone would have been proud of. The servings were generous as were the flavors, but we all found room to sample the dessert.

Pick of the day was the Dark Chocolate and Rosemary Infused Creme Brulee, closely followed by the Sticky Date Pudding, Nougat Icecream (apparently a specialty of the new owner) and Hazelnut Pavlova with Berries and Cream.

A wonderfully enjoyable afternoon was had by all and I would highly recommend a visit next time you’re up the mountain. Sundowners is fully licensed and open for lunch Tuesday to Sunday and dinner Tuesday to Saturday. You won’t be disappointed.
