Recipes for Treats you can Gift

These do not have to be intricate and time consuming items to make. Often the simple things are the best. Use your imagination when making homemade chocolates etc. I like to use dried fruits and you can soak them in alcohol or not and use different chocolate flavours ie milk, dark or white. Make things that you would like and I am sure  you will find everyone else will love them too.

This is an old favourite of mine: Brandied Apricots in Dark Chocolate.

200g Dried Apricots (I like the dark coloured ones best), 1 or 2 Tbsp Brandy – as desired, 200g good quality dark chocolate.

Put the apricots in a bowl and sprinkle with the brandy. Cover and allow to soak over night, stirring ocassionally.

Place the chopped chocolate in a bowl over medium boiling water. Do not let the bowl touch the water. Stir the chocolate until melted and remove bowl from the boiling water. Using a tooth pick or a small fork, dip each apricot into the melted dark chocolate. Let drain for a moment and then place on baking paper on an oven tray or similar. When you have dipped all the apricots, place the tray in the fridge until they are set. Place into a container and store in the fridge.

You can be quite creative with these by using other dried fruits and your favourite  liquer’s. Here are some suggestions:

Prunes soaked in Port and dipped in dark or milk chocolate. Dates filled with white chocolate and dipped in milk chocolate – you can mix a little cream into the white chocolate when you melt it, which will make it more like a truffle mixture and a little softer as a filling.

Of course you will need to sample a few, just to make sure they are right …. :) enjoy.
